Tsuyoshi Chitose, MD
Founder Chito-ryu Karate-do
Chito-ryu Karate was founded by the late Dr. Tsyuoshi Chitose (1898 – 1984). The translation of Chito-ryu is: Chi = one thousand and To represents the Tang Dynasty of China, symbolizing the origins of karate over 1,000 years ago in China. Ryu means style or system. Karate-do literally means “the way of the empty hand”.
O-Sensei Chitose studied under some of the greatest Okinawan practitioners of his time including: Aragaki Seisho, Chotoku Kyan, Motobu Choyu, Hanashiro Chomo, and Matsamura Sokon. He studied kobudo from Chinen Sanra. He was considered by some as the greatest kata master of his generation.
William J. Dometrich, Hanshi
Founder U.S. Chito-ryu Karate Federation
William J. Dometrich (1935 - 2012) studied under Dr. Chitose while stationed in Japan in the 1950’s. He was appointed to lead the United States Chito-ryu Karate Federation (also called U.S. Chito-kai) in 1967 along with his wife Barbara E. Dometrich, Kyoshi (Okusan). His rank and title of 9th dan and Hanshi were awarded by the Dai Nippon Butokukai. The United States Yoseikan Hombu (home) dojo is in Covington, Kentucky.

Lawrence C. Hawkins, Jr began his study of Karate in 1960 under Dometrich Hanshi in Covington, KY. He holds the rank of 8th dan and the title Kyoshi. Hawkins Kyoshi is the Chief Advisor and Chairman Emeritus of the United States Chito-kai. He is the Founder and Chief Instructor of Yoseikan II Dojo in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Masaru Inomoto began his karate training under O-Sensei Tsuyoshi Chitose at the age of 17. For the reminder of O-Sensei’s life Inomoto Sensei lived almost next door. He is a 9th Dan Kyoshi under Chitose Sensei. He was a Jukendo Instructor for the Japan Ground Forces. He is a direct student of Akamine Eisuke holding the rank of 7th dan Kyoshi of Ryukyu Kobudo Hozon Shinkokai. He is 8th dan jun-Hanshi of Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu Iaido. After the death of Chitose Sensei, Inomoto Sensei formed Jikkishin Ryu which encompasses all aspects of his Martial training at his Kobukan Dojo.

Cyna Khalily, MD is the founder and Chief Instructor of Takanoko Dojo. He began Karate training in 1981 under Lawrence C. Hawkins, Jr., Kyoshi in Cincinnati, OH. He currently also receives direct instruction from Inomoto Masaru Kancho in Japan.
